"A particularly significant potential of this year’s Biennale theme lies in affirming the need for architecture in Montenegro to become an example of responsible behavior—going beyond the routine we have become accustomed to, and stepping into an interdisciplinary form of practice that relies on the specificities of the local context and the universal principles of sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation."

Emir Šehanović - Exhibitor

(1981, Tuzla) Outside the region, he has exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions at Jeune Création, Les Beaux-Arts de Paris (2018), AQB Project Space Budapest (2018), Ultrastudio Los Angeles (2018), Gallery Weekend Berlin (2015), Athens Video Art Festival (2013), among others. He also participated in Liste Art Fair (2015), Parallel Vienna, ArtGeneve (2018), Vienna Contemporary, and ArtGeneve (2019). Šehanović was recently selected as one of the '100 Sculptors of Tomorrow' in a publication released by Thames and Hudson. In his practice, he gives new life to objects or brings them to the point where they begin to mimic life itself. Most of his works merge parts of different bodies into a unified whole—hybrids of ourselves and the images we use to represent ourselves. Adhering to the idea that the body is inherently changeable and that bodily (material) identity is influenced by the illusions of our sensations, the artist explores how the body fits—or fails to fit—into its aesthetic environment.
